ICT Skills Practicum details – Term Two 2010

A) Digital Movie Making
Prior skill level required – Open to all, no experience needed
Tuesday 4th May 5 hours/9am - 3pm
Promote critical and creative thinking using Movie Maker. Participants will learn about storyboarding, effective filming techniques, importing and editing footage. Transitions, video effects, music and voiceovers will be added as the short movies are created.
Please note: video cameras and tripods will be supplied for use.

B) Introducing Wiki
Prior skill level required – Open to all, no experience needed
Wednesday 5th May 3 hours/9am - 12pm
Develop a free and easily maintainable class or learning area website using wikispaces.com. Wikis encourage creativity, collaboration and contribution as an online citizen and provide access to school material from home. This introductory “hands-on” session will cover: setting up a new wiki account, basic text and image editing, widgets, acceptable use policies and ways to use wikis within your teaching. Time will be allocated for setting up your own wiki for class use.

(It would be very useful to bring some of your own resources such as PowerPoint Presentations or digital worksheets to this session to upload to the Internet. You will also need access to your school email).

C) Intermediate wiki
Prior skill Level required – Open to all, no experience needed
Wednesday 5th May 2 hours/1pm -3pm
The session is for those who have already had experience in creating their own wiki and will focus on more advanced features of a wiki site, e.g. embedding custom widgets, surveys and online tests, avatars, maintaining a wiki with minimal effort and wiki permissions to allow student controlled access.
(It would be very useful to bring some of your own resources such as PowerPoint Presentations or digital worksheets to this session to upload to the Internet. You will also need access to your school email).

D) Digital SLR-
Prior skill level required – None
Tuesday 4th May 2 hours 1pm – 3pm
This session is for those who want to understand their Digital SLR and increase their photographic understanding to create great images.
Session will cover SLR concepts, lens use, flash use and use digital image work flow.

(you will have to bring your own SLR for this session)

E) Using Moodle (Educo)
Prior skill level required – None
Thursday 6th May 3 hours, 9am – 12pm
This will teach you the basics of using MOODLE the online course delivery system. You will learn how

  • Build an online course
  • Attach resources to your course
  • Embed media
It will help to bring some of your own resources to this session.

F) Using Mahara (Educo)
Prior skill level required – None
Thursday 6th May 2 hours 1pm - 3pm
This is the E-Portfolio software that is now available through Educo. This is used for students and teachers to be able to social network, showcase work and blog.
You will learn how to;

  • Create a profile
  • Create groups
  • Create views
